Bible and Ministry Scholarship Program

Application Procedures

  • All students desiring to participate in the Bible and Ministry Scholarship Program should submit their Scholarship Application for the fall semester by the preceding March 15 or as soon thereafter as eligibility can be determined. Awards are made on a funds-available basis by May 1 and funds availability cannot be guaranteed for late applications.
  • Submit a personal reference from an elder or minister with the application.
  • Submit with your application a typescript essay of one to two pages describing why you desire to major in Bible at Ohio Valley College, your personal, academic, and professional goals, and how you hope to serve in the church after you complete your education.
  • Arrange an interview through the Bible program director’s office. New students or students applying for the first time should consider arranging this interview during a campus visit. The interview process may be done by telephone or in writing according to the circumstances involved. The interview may be waived for re-applicants.
  • Applicants will be notified of the status of their Bible scholarship award as soon as possible, either in writing or by telephone.

    Scholarship Levels

  • Exact scholarship levels are dependent on funding and the number of applicants.
  • Scholarship levels currently range from $500 per year ($250 per semester) to $1500 per year ($750 per semester).
  • Scholarships are automatically renewed for the spring semester of the same school year if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Scholarships are generally available only for eight semesters. Students should arrange their schedules to make satisfactory academic progress to complete the program in this time-frame.
  • Extensions for a fifth year are available only by special appeal.

    Eligibility

  • According to the grants which fund this scholarship program, applicants must be faithful members of the church of Christ and be planning to work in some area of full-time ministry upon graduation.
  • A freshman entering OVC should have an ACT composite of at least 18 or the equivalent SAT combined score (~820) and a minimum high school GPA of 2.0.
  • A student transferring to OVC as a freshman or sophomore may demonstrate eligibility with either the ACT/SAT composite scores above or a cumulative GPA in college work completed of at least 2.0. This student must not be on academic warning or probation.
  • A returning OVC student with less than 60 hours should have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and not be on academic warning, or probation. This student must have completed the appropriate number of Bible survey courses (one per semester of study at OVC) with a grade of at least “C” and must maintain a minimum GPA in Bible courses of at least 2.5.
  • A returning OVC student with 60 or more credit hours should have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and must maintain a minimum GPA in Bible courses of at least 2.5 with no grade in a Bible course below a “C.” Such students must have completed the survey courses and introduction to ministry seminar with a grade of at least “C”. The student must have applied for and received formal admission to the Bible program and be actively pursuing a baccalaureate in Bible at OVC. The student may not be on academic or behavioral warning or probation.
  • Scholarships are automatically renewed for the spring semester of the same school year if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements. Continuing students must renew their application to verify continued eligibility.
  • Students not meeting the eligibility criteria may apply for a waiver for one semester to attain eligibility. Students desiring such a waiver should submit a letter of appeal explaining the special circumstances which have contributed to their deficiency and a plan for remedying their situation. They should also arrange an interview through the office of director of the Bible program.
